I was accessing my Optus online account today and got this message.
Okay, here’s the irony. I am using Optus Wireless (Broadband Unplugged Turbo G Fast Wireless Broadband) to access the Optus homepage, and they tell me that my internet connection is slow. Priceless!
Click on the image for a bigger / clearer picture. If the image is scaled, click on it once more to zoom in. This happened when my modem told me I have full HSDPA bandwidth.
Update (06/04/08): It seems Optus is very slow for web browsing, despite getting reasonably good results on official speed test results. This seems to be consistent problem - investigate here. Comment if you are having trouble too.
Update (12/04/08): When you type “optus wireless broadband slow”, you get the 7th result as this. Read what it says straight after: “We’ve noticed your internet connection is slow…”. This is a Google gimmick, not an Optus fault, but still funny! Click on image for larger view.

Optus Wireless Broadband is a frigging joke - anyone considering getting it I had better speeds using Unwired, despite the Optus software thingy consistently saying I have signal strength in excess of 70%… WTF? Broadband my butt!
I do notice that the speeds are much better than when I initially signed up, but still quite slow.
i have called up numerous times to ask if there is a problem with my speeds, as i almost ALWAYS have full bars but ALWAYS have bad speeds. right now it is going about as slow as it does when you go over your download limit on adsl.
when i called up, after the whole phone call of them saying “oh that’s weird, full bars but slow speeds”, they ended up saying “well that is the speeds you should normally expect from broadband” so basically deal with it.

Yeah, optus customer service is pretty bad. I haven’t had to call them for ages, but every time I did the guy/gal on the other end didn’t know what they were saying. I notice they have foreign workers when you have technical problem, and Australian people for new customer sign ups. Dodgy!
